Why Choose SOMA Therapy

SOMA Therapy provides assessment-led sports therapy and massage in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas.

The focus is simple: help you move better, recover properly, and reduce ongoing tension in the body.

Each session is tailored to your needs, whether you are training regularly, dealing with pain, or feeling consistently tight or fatigued.

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Every session begins with an assessment and is adjusted to what your body needs on the day.

Treatment is focused, practical, and designed to support long-term physical wellbeing.

This approach supports not just performance and recovery, but how your body regulates and responds to stress.

Common Questions

  • Appointments are set aside specifically for each person to allow sessions to run smoothly and on time.

If an appointment needs to be cancelled or changed, at least 24 hours’ notice is requested wherever possible.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of the appointment time may be charged 50% of the session cost.

Appointments that are missed without notice may be charged at 100% of the session cost.

This policy helps ensure availability for others and allows the service to be offered fairly and consistently.

  • Sports therapy and massage designed to support performance, recovery, and regulation, while helping manage injury and ongoing muscle tension.

Sessions are tailored on the day and may include hands-on massage, targeted work for problem areas, and practical recovery support.

  • Sessions are suitable for gym-goers, runners, active people, office workers, and adults experiencing physical stress or ongoing muscle tension.

Support is also available for adults with ADHD, with sessions adapted to be calm, predictable, and body-led.

Where appropriate, sports therapy is offered to children and young people within clear professional boundaries and with consent.

  • Each session starts with a brief check-in about how the body is feeling that day.

Treatment is then adjusted based on training load, injury history, stress levels, and comfort.

There is no pressure to talk — the focus is on physical support and what feels helpful on the day.

  • No.

Many people book to manage muscle tightness, stiffness, or physical stress from work or daily life.

Sessions are adapted whether someone trains regularly or not.

  • Yes.

Sessions can be adapted to support people who struggle with focus, overwhelm, or physical tension linked to stress or ADHD.

Work is calm, structured, and adjusted to how the body responds, without talking therapy or psychological treatment.

  • Attending a first appointment can feel a bit uncertain if you’re not sure what will happen. The aim is to make the process clear and straightforward from the start.

Before the session begins, a short consultation form will be completed. This covers contact details, relevant health information, any current or previous injuries, and consent for treatment. Support is available if anything needs explaining or filling in.

Time will then be spent talking through the reason for the appointment and any areas of concern. A physical assessment will follow to understand how the body is moving and where support is needed. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended, as some movement may be involved. In some cases, areas beyond the main problem area may be checked to build a full picture — for example, hip pain may also involve the back or knees.

Once the assessment is complete, the most appropriate treatment approach will be explained and agreed. What is being done and why will be clearly described throughout the session.

After the treatment, simple aftercare guidance may be provided. This might include basic exercises, stretches, or practical advice to support recovery and reduce the risk of ongoing issues.

  • Sports therapy is available for children and young people where appropriate.

Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or have written consent to attend and consent to treatment if attending alone. All sessions with under-18s are consent-led, age-appropriate, and focused on physical support only.

Alongside hands-on sports massage and sports therapy, sessions may also include simple breathing techniques and other practical sports therapy approaches where suitable. These are used to support physical regulation, movement, and comfort, and are always explained clearly beforehand.

All work with children and young people is carried out within clear professional boundaries and does not involve counselling or psychological treatment.
