What I Can Help With

Who SOMA Therapy is For

SOMA Therapy supports people across Portsmouth and the surrounding areas who place regular physical demands on their body through sport, training, work or everyday life.

Not sure which treatment is right for you?

You don't need to decide before you book.

Every client begins with an Initial Assessment & Sports Massage, where together we'll identify whether your treatment is best guided by Performance, Recovery or Regulation, before creating a plan tailored to your goals.

SOMA Therapy addresses a range of common physical issues associated with training, work, and everyday life.

Sessions are assessment-led and tailored to your body, focusing on performance, recovery, and regulation.

Treatment may include sports massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, cupping, and tissue mobilisation, used to:

  • reduce muscle tightness

  • improve mobility and flexibility

  • increase range of motion (ROM)

  • support injury prevention

  • proactively address muscle imbalances

Support is available for adults, young people, and those who benefit from a more structured, calm, and neurodivergent-informed approach.

Neck and shoulder tension

Tension in the neck and shoulders is common with desk-based work, stress, and training load.

This may feel like tightness, discomfort, or restricted movement, often building up over time.

Recovery and regulation sessions use targeted techniques such as trigger point therapy and soft tissue work to reduce tension, improve comfort, and support how your body settles.

Lower back tightness

Lower back tightness can develop from prolonged sitting, lifting, or general physical strain.

You may notice stiffness, restriction, or recurring discomfort.

Recovery sessions focus on tissue mobilisation and myofascial release to improve movement, reduce tightness, and support long-term comfort.

Muscle soreness and fatigue

Soreness and fatigue can build up from training, physical activity, or day-to-day demands.

Your body may feel heavy, tight, or slow to recover.

Sports massage and recovery-focused treatment help reduce muscle tension, support circulation, and improve how your body recovers between sessions.

Running and sport-related tightness

Sport and training can place repeated demand on areas such as the calves, hamstrings, hips, and lower back.

Tightness or imbalance in these areas can affect performance and increase the risk of injury.

Performance sessions are focused on improving movement, addressing imbalances, and supporting consistent training through targeted, assessment-led treatment.

Support is also available for:

  • pre-event preparation (to optimise movement and readiness)

  • post-event recovery (to reduce soreness and support recovery)

  • ongoing performance support

Ongoing tightness and restriction

Some people experience constant tightness without a clear injury.

This may be linked to movement patterns, stress, or physical load.

Recovery and regulation sessions help release underlying tension, improve mobility, and support more natural, efficient movement.

Stress and physical tension

Tension can build in the body even without a specific injury.

You may feel tight, restless, or unable to fully relax.

Regulation sessions provide a calm, structured approach, using slower, guided treatment to help your nervous system settle and reduce physical tension.

Neurodivergent support

Sessions are suitable for neurodivergent clients, including ADHD.

A structured, predictable approach is used to support comfort, communication, and regulation.

This can be particularly helpful for those who:

  • feel overwhelmed in traditional environments

  • struggle to fully relax during treatment

Support for young people

SOMA Therapy offers sessions for children and young people, tailored to their needs and level of understanding.

This includes support with:

  • physical tension

  • activity-related strain

  • emotional regulation

All delivered through a calm, structured, and supportive approach.

Residential and supported settings

Support can be provided within residential homes or supported environments.

Sessions are adapted to the setting and individual needs, with a focus on:

  • safety

  • regulation

  • building comfort with treatment
